Our History
Five Decades of Growth
Late 1970s
Founded in Shinyanga
Our parent company is founded in Shinyanga by Maganlal B. Kara — a small family trading shop supplying hardware and building materials to the diamond belt and Tanzania's lake region zone that needed supplies.
Late 1980s
Economic Liberalization
Tanzania's economic liberalization triggers exponential growth in construction, mining and roadworks. Demand for quality equipment, materials and tools increases as large-scale domestic and foreign players enter the market.
Early 1990s
Kara Traders Ltd Incorporated in Dar es Salaam
Our Director, Mr. Deepak M. Kara, relocates to Dar es Salaam and the business is formally incorporated as Kara Traders Limited. The company quickly establishes itself, sourcing and importing goods starting from the Middle East.
2000s
Introduce Several Internationally Renowned Brands
Under the guidance of our Director, Mr. Pratish Maganlal Kara, we continue to expand our product range from hardware and plumbing to hand tools and eventually into power tools and other machinery. We shift focus from retail to wholesale and distributorships, and begin sourcing from Italy, Spain, the UK and other European markets.
2007
Kara Power Tools Ltd Formed
Under Mr. Pratish Maganlal Kara's leadership, Kara Power Tools Ltd is established as a dedicated entity and exclusive distributor of Hitachi power tools in Tanzania. The move marks a deliberate shift towards specialist distribution — bringing professional-grade equipment and dedicated technical support directly to contractors and industrial clients across the country.
2010s
Exclusive King Tony Tools Distributorship for Tanzania
With our reputation for quality, Kara Traders builds a relationship with Taiwan-based King Tony Tools Limited and begins exclusive distributorship of best-in-class hand tools to large-scale clients across the country.
